Waiwhetu Catchment Sampling

The Waiwhetu Stream springs from the eastern hills near Taita and Naenae and flows southwards to join Te Awa Kairangi/Hutt River near its mouth.The stream network within the catchment is approximately 27km in length.The stream sustained iwi for centuries before the arrival of European settlers, with Owhiti Pā and Waiwhetu Pā being the most important Pā on the awa.   Read more

The Owhiro Stream originates in the suburb of Brooklyn, flowing down through Happy Valley before being released into Owhiro Bay on the south coast of Wellington.There are two main tributaries of the stream, the first originating in Kowhai Park and the second at Careys Gully.The total stream length in the catchment is approximately 26km.   Read more

The headwaters of the Karori Stream are in the western hillslopes of Wellington in the suburb of Karori.The stream flows south west through heavily vegetated hills and valleys before flowing out to the south coast.The stream network in the catchment is approximately 33km in length.The Karori Stream catchment was heavily forested before settlement occurred.   Read more
